Mobile Infirmary Newborn Care & Safety Class
The objective of this course is to educate new parents, grandparents and other caregivers about current care and safety practices in the hospital and the newborn stage at home. This is not a class designed for CPR Healthcare certification.
Upon completion of this course participants should:
- Be familiar with the routine newborn screenings that will be performed in the hospital before discharge
- Understand the requirements that must be met before discharge (follow-up appointment with a pediatrician and car seat installation)
- Recognize warning signs that require immediate attention and know who to contact
- Understand up-to-date safety measures to care for their infant
- Demonstrate community-based knowledge of how to perform CPR on their infant in the event of an emergency
