Alabama Tax Free Weekend
During the three-day tax holiday, shoppers can buy qualifying computers, books, school supplies and clothing free of Alabama’s 4% state sales tax. Additionally, more than 300 cities and counties across Alabama are waiving their local sales taxes.
The sales tax holiday begins the third full weekend of July, starting at 12:01 a.m. on the third Friday in July and ends at midnight the following Sunday.
Qualifying Back-to-School Items:
Articles of Clothing: with sales price of $156 or less per article of clothing; Clothing means all human apparel suitable for general use including shoes, sneakers, and sandals. It does not include belts, costumes, patches, emblems, sewing equipment, sewing materials, accessories (such as jewelry, cosmetics, umbrellas, etc.), protective equipment (such as face masks, helmets, etc), sports or recreational equipment.
Computers: with single item purchase sales price of $1,173 or less for computer, computer software, or school computer supplies. Items not sold as part of package (such as speakers, monitor or mouse) may not qualify.
School Supplies: with single item purchase sales price of $50 o r less for general back-to-school supplies such as binders, calculators, paper, lunch boxes, school instructional materials (such as globe).
Required Textbooks on Official Book List: with single item purchase sales price of more than $47 and less than $78
School Art Supplies: with single item purchase of $50 or less for art supplies such as clay, drawing pads, etc
