Juneteenth Birmingham

On Saturday, June 15, 2024, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is excited to host its annual Juneteenth Celebration featuring music, dance, health, wellness, history, heritage, STEAM enrichment, and sports.
Along 16th Street between 3rd Avenue and 6th Avenue, guests will be able to connect with culture through genealogy workshops, dance classes, documentaries, story time, food, shopping and more! BCRI’s permanent galleries will also be free throughout the day.

Session 1 –  10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Maximum: 16 people)
Session 2 –  1:00 to 2:30 p.m. (Maximum: 16 people)
Session 3 –  2:30 to 4:00 p.m. (Maximum: 16 people)

Children’s Story Time | Bookstore
Reading 1 –  11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Reading 2 –  2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Environmental Education | >The Commons
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Yoga Fitness | The Commons | This event will require pre-registration. Register Here.
1:00 to 2:00 pm (Maximum: 25 people)

How to Enjoy the Celebration:
  1. Register in advance for timed activities, like genealogy and fitness workshops!
  2. Wear lightweight clothing, comfortable shoes and sunscreen.
  3. Hydrate with lots of water!
  4. Bring multiple payment options for our amazing vendors.
  5. Explore all THREE blocks of the event.
  6. Bring lawn chairs to enjoy the entertainment.
